Your gas heater, on the other hand, should also be turned off. But before you turn it off, it is essential to open the spigot of your gas heater to let the air flow and wait for it to drain.

    Draining Water

The next thing that you need to do is to drain water from all of the lines in your house. All you have to do is to turn on all of your faucets and let the water flow. But remember that there may be standing water present in the lines and you will need to use a compressor to ensure that all the water are sucked out. For homes with well systems, it is essential to drain them as well.

    Anti-freeze Application

You may also use drain water softener as this will help avoid the tanks from getting frozen. For toilets and some other drainage, it would be best to use RV antifreeze. You don’t have to worry about anything because they are nontoxic and can be used inside the house.

    Turning Off Appliances and Breakers

The appliances inside the house should be turned off, such as the refrigerator, ice maker, laundry washer and the dishwasher. Make sure to unplug all of them and ensure that they are all drained to avoid these appliances from freezing. Your electrical breakers should also be turned off.

    Checking the Furnace System

There are furnace systems today that have lines for water supply, if one of these houses is yours it would be ideal to drain the water out of the system. You can do this by checking the floor drain where the water can be drained going to the main area of plumbing. For furnace without the floor drain, it would be best to check the manual for you to be able to locate the drain.
